Ep 41. “Everyone’s Māori Healing Journey Is Different” with Amos Nepia-Rangi

““I had to sit in that wānanga of ‘I was not being Māori enough’… to knowing that, you know what, I can learn that. But what I learned throughout my whole childhood memories and experiences, no one’s gonna know that.””

With Amos Nepia-Rangi, Romiromi/Mirimiri practitioner

In this deeply honest conversation, Amos Nepia shares about his journey home to sharing healing, the importance of honouring his Māori identity, whakapapa, healing and the journey of remembering who we are.

Amos shares his experience growing up beneath Taupiri, surrounded by whānau, community and the unseen mahi of his Koro, before taking a very different path and eventually finding his way back to the practices, people and cultural connections that had been around him all along.

Together they explore what it means to return home, to navigate the feeling of not being “Māori enough”, and to discover that some of what we are searching for may already live within us. They talk about RomiRomi and Mirimiri, the importance of intention and stewardship, trusting the unknown, working alongside a partner, creating space for tāne, wāhine and whānau, and the lessons that come through challenge. At its heart, this is a kōrero about self-remembrance, following the call of the mahi, and learning how to carry what has been passed down while allowing it to continue evolving.

Amos is a RomiRomi and Mirimiri practitioner, men’s mentor, personal trainer and facilitator whose mahi is grounded in supporting wellbeing across i hinengaro, i tinana, me te wairua ~ mind, body and spirit.

His journey has been one of returning to himself, reconnecting with his identity, whakapapa and the knowledge that surrounded him from childhood. Through his healing journey and wānanga, Mos came to recognise the importance of self-remembrance, intention, connection and creating spaces where people can feel safe enough to explore who they are.

Alongside his healing mahi, Mos works through 1:1 mentoring, mindset and emotional regulation, fitness, breath practices and rites of passage. He also facilitates men’s groups, tāne wānanga and fitness groups, and supports the wellbeing of tangata whaiora and kaimahi through his work in oranga.

His approach is grounded in the belief that everyone carries their own kete, and that our mahi is not about having all the answers, but about learning to listen, trust, grow and walk our own path.
